Your Guide:
Hi I’m Desi, life long dog lover and Petaluma local. I’ve spent most of my adult life working with dogs in care, walking, and training. My goal is to create a calm, safe, and enjoyable space for dogs and their people while practicing good manners in real-life situations.
– Get overexcited on walks
– Feel nervous around other animals or people
– Struggle to focus around distractions
And for people who:
– Want to enjoy a calm, safe walk with their dog
– Love meeting other dog people
– Appreciate beautiful views and fresh air
What to Expect:
– Calm, safe walks on private ranch property (some uneven terrain & light hills)
– Real-life practice around livestock and other dogs (at a safe distance)
– A relaxed, supportive small group experience
What else might you expect when you visit the FDSA Ranch?

Animals!
The ranch is home to two dozen cattle from a Guernsey to several Hereford and Angus. Over 40 sheep including some purebred Barbados Black Belly and many Dorper and Katahdin crosses help keep 100 acres of pasture in check and are supervised by Drama the llama. Magenta is the resident ranch cat and helps control the rodent population. We have a dozen chickens including several lovely Bielefelder ladies with their attendant rooster and two random Ameraucana hens. Finally, who can forget the fluctuating population of Guinea fowl, assiduously eating any stray ticks and commenting on the guests.

Dog Training!
The ranch supports the students of the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy – folks who are actively engaged in training dogs “with a purpose”. That purpose might be to protect or control a flock of sheep or cows, a hunting retriever or spaniel, a ratter to control vermin in the barn, or a dog working towards dog sport goals. We also host and support activities for the local community, including country puppy socialization walks and options for students working on reactivity issues.

Education opportunities!
Fascinated by dog behavior? Want to spend a weekend with a world-class educator from the dog world? We’ll offer educational opportunities with influential instructors across a range of applied dog fields — from abnormal behavior to intensive working clinics! The FDSA ranch will be your place to learn from the best that the dog world has to offer!

Test and Trials!
While not suited to large events, we offer small events such as scent work trials, barn hunt, herding instinct tests, AKC farm dog certifications and more!
